Such a little place, but so much fun! If I wish to talk with friends I go off hours, but for fun it is best to go during busy hours. The food is great! Best Amatriciana in New York & the sole Pizzaiola is so full of taste. Once the servers know you, they never forget what you like & treat you as an honored guest. Love the salad dressing, so simple so good. The kitchen is open & you can see the cooks preparing the food. Love this place.

The warm weather crowds overwhelmed the staff of Il Porto. After being seated we were presented with a basket of bread that was burned black and was simply inedible. We waited nearly 30 minutes before our waitress was able to come to our table. The entrees were very good, but over priced. (Although it is interesting to note that the closer to the water’s edge, the more expensive the food becomes.) The final issue was that there was only one functioning stall in the lady’s room, which translated into a half-hour wait to use the facilities. We found ourselves wishing we had opted for the upscale street food; hotdogs or fish-and-chips that were available on the pier.

I walked in this restuarant for the firsit time and i was a little taken back by the size and the rustic look of the place. so i told my wife lets just go to the bar and have a drink and i think we where there about 15 or 20 minutes and we deciede to eat their.15 years later it is one of our favorite places. DEFINETLY WORTH A TRY ! ! !

Carmines is an atmospheric wonderful little hideaway with a shabby feel that extends to the decor only. Get there before 12.30 and try the Spaghetti with clams in white sauce, truly amazing. Oh yeh, ask for the garlic bread too.
We were in NYC for 3 days, stayed in mid town and travelled down to Carmines twice to eat. The Mushroom Clam chowder is excellent too.
It gets busy at lunch time, the bar was packed and the tables full but we turned up just as someone else left so wandered straight into a comfortable booth, superb!
