For a true taste of home cooking, head to Neal's Cafe in Springdale. The servers are efficient and focused on ensuring you enjoy your meal. The fried chicken is reminiscent of a cast iron skillet recipe and the homemade mashed potatoes are a must-try with their hearty texture. The cozy atmosphere with wood stoves and fireplaces adds to the nostalgic charm of this Northwest Arkansas institution.

If there were a way to rate our breakfast at Neal's this morning (11/28/23) any lower than one star, I would. A vegetable omelette my sister and I shared, along with the hash browns biscuits and gravy, with a side order of grits has the distinction -- items singularly and collectively -- of being the worst breakfast I have ever ordered. The vegetables in the omelette were almost raw, the grits were gooey, tasteless and mildly warm. All the items on the plate were at best luke warm. The coffee was so weak it looked like tea, and the "cream" was NOT cream. It was a great disappointment -- no only because it expressed more greed than quality, but because I grew up in Rogers AR and Neal's is practically a tradition. And was formerly know as serving quality. The small number of people in the restaurant at 8:30 in the morning seems to say everything. In the old days (eg, the last time I was there (2019) it was packed at that hour. This says everything. I will never go back. When I complained, the waitress who was eyeing my nearly untouched plate asked if I wanted to replace the items with a fresh plate! Imagining I would like to repeat my mistake!! Anywhere else there would have been an apology, followed by something like: "You shouldn't be charged for food you couldn't eat." My sister was in full agreement with me but had not had dinner the night before and told the waitress: "I'm like Mikey, I'll eat anything." She and the waitress both laughed. I had a party set for work on Wednesday! I ordered a Lemon Meringue Pie on Sunday morning (The best Pies in NWA) for pick up on Tuesday p.m. When I arrived to pick up my pie, I was told that my ticket had been overlooked and that my pie was not ready. I was so disappointed, I hung my head and left the cafe. Then it hit me! The Neal's are good people and they would want to know of a situation like this.....I walked back in and was able to speak to the owner's son. Super nice man named Micah, apologized immediately and took charge of the situation. He not only delivered my pie to work the next day but, did not even charge me due to the circumstances. WOW! Who ever hears of customer service like this these days?? It is very rare. But that is just what Neal's Cafe is known for....hard work, honest folk, great food and outstanding customer service!!
