Top Reviews of Roni's Pizza
10/15/2009 - Raven
My friend and I came to eat at Roni's by accident; We were going somewhere else but they were closed. We had passed Roni's so we decided to check it out.
Although it is unassuming both outside and inside, the smell that greeted us at the door was mouthwatering and we knew we had discovered a new favorite place to eat.
The waitress was very friendly and very prompt. We ordered a 14'' Pizza and a Chef's Salad to split. When the salad came it was huge! The dressings were homemade and delicious.
Then came the pizza, my half with Pepperoni and onion, my friend's with Mushroom and garlic. After the first bite I was hooked. That was the best pizza I have tasted in this area since I moved here many years ago from New York! The Owner came over personally to ask how everything was, and I could tell by the accent he hadn't been in the US for long. I inquired and I was right, he had come from Italy to New York where he lived in Brooklyn for a time before moving here to North Carolina. That must be where he learned to make the best New York Style Pizza I have ever had! The crust is super thin, and the cheese is NOT the store bought cheap kind. (I would not be surprised if he made the Mozzarella himself!) The garlic and mushrooms on my friends half were fresh as well
The sauce was a delicate balance between bold but not overwhelming.
I ate as much as I could and ended up taking the rest home. Later that night I reheated a couple pieces in the toaster over for myself and my husband, and even reheated it was every bit as good as it was when they first set it on our table!
I just sent my husband up there to get a pizza to go, and I can tell you that Roni's Pizza will be the ONLY place we get pizza from now!
The prices are very reasonable as well.
Before I left, the owner, finding out it was my Birthday, brought me out a slice of his divine New Your Style Cheesecake, complete with a candle and singing Happy Birthday! When you eat there be sure to try a piece of that for desert if you have room!
Yes, this will be a favorite place for our family to eat, and we found it by a stroke of luck that my other favorite restaurant nearby was closed. I HIGHLY recommend Roni's Pizza; Try it once and you too will be hooked!
Bon Appetite!
Ciao!~ Raven
