i've lived in Rio Vista for a few years, now. i was brought up in a Mexican home, with authentic food recipes from my parents' ancestral home country. so, i know good, authentic Mexican food. partly because of that, i had been reluctant to try Tortilla Flats. i finally threw caution to the wind, and went to try it on 16 September. i had the grande combination plate; choosing a chicken enchilada, chili relleno, and chicken taco with rice and beans. the food was served hot, and with salsa. the salsa is very flavorful. i even bought some to bring home, something i don't usually do.

the chicken taco was the highlight of the entrees, as far as i was concerned. the chicken was not overcooked and dry; it was moist and full of flavor. the next time i want a good chicken taco, i'll be sure to come here before i venture out of town.

the rice and beans tasted like my mom's, and truly, that is the highest of compliments. the flavors actually made me a little homesick.

the enchilada and relleno were ok. i think they would have been better if they hadn't put their mole on it. the mole was somewhat bland, for my tastes. i didn't taste any spices or chili in it. but i admit, i am VERY picky about mole. it wasn't bad, just for me, somewhat disappointing. i wonder if they can be made with the green sauce, or even just the homemade salsa instead.

the service was above par. the waitress was pleasant, and on the spot with food and my drink. and the portions were generous. i ended up bringing about half of it home.

so, in recapping, the dinner was good, and some of it, very good. i'll definitely be back. VIVA TORTILLA FLATS.

One of the only decent places to eat in this town. Sorry to say. Good salsa, good chile verde. Cold beer, good service.
