This afternoon, My husband and I decided to enjoy the afternoon buffet at Trotters. My husband, who has been going to Trotters for years and years, and I walked in. As we were deciding what table to sit at, a man runs up from behind us saying "Excuse me! Excuse me! Do you have another shirt in your car?" I said "no" and looked down at my top. This man refused my husband and I service for me wearing a SLEEVELESS TOP. The employee (not a manager) went on to explain that a sleeveless top was not appropriate for me to be wearing in their restaurant. I MAY have found this understandable had it been dinner or on a weekend, however, this was on a Thursday in the early afternoon.
Upon our return to the car, I was absolutely humiliated and after scanning their website for any mention of a dress code without any results, my husband stormed back inside demanding to see a manager. After being told that they would not even consult the manager on this issue, he called the Market Pavilion (their much more upscale hotel downtown). After being given the runaround, he was put in touch with the GM who abruptly declared that Trotters reserves the right to refuse anyone service.
Greatly disappointed in a restaurant that we so thoroughly enjoyed on a weekly afternoon basis. Today was an absolutely disgusting show of the restaurant and hotel's character. We will never return, and as a business owner in the city of Charleston who is often asked for restaurant recommendations, Trotters or Market 225 will NEVER AGAIN receive a recommendation from me or my employees.
