This place is horrible!! The service is awful and the food isn't much better. I have never been to a restaurant where the customers are treated so poorly. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. You'll be glad you did.

My wife and I have eaten at Charlotte Cafe occasionally for about 30 years. We see a movie at the Park Terrace, then we eat there after the movie.

I love what it used to be: a good neighborhood plain-Jane restaurant that served delicious food in a cozy small space. Customers were (and are) locals who are not enthused by the multitude of chains that surround it.

So. I want to continue to like it; I really do. I detest the carefully designed corporate restaurants. Give me the smaller individually owned restaurants! As long as they make good food served by attentive staff.

There are still of few of these restaurants in Charlotte. But this is not one of them.

Charlotte Cafe still has a small core group of regulars, and they believe they are well served; I've seen many and many personal interactions between the staff and old-time regulars that warm the heart, seriously.

But. This personal and excellent service does not extend to non-regulars.

Here's the thing: my wife and I go there expecting a good neighborhood restaurant experience, and if there are quirks that happen, so what? That's a part of it.

But. Slow and studied indifference by the staff toward non-regulars, and slightly warm servings of indifferent food are now the normal at this restaurant.

I normally don't give a perfect score to any business but their family of staff adds the extra star.. It's a taste of grandma's house...great food from family recipes and loyal staff who have been there for years. If you're expecting big chain service you won't find it here. They make eye contact here! I'm so happy this restaurant is staying put!
