The Red Lantern Fine Cuisine restaurant has a pricing scam that should put it out of business. While looking at the menu, I saw that the dish, Sizzling Seafood Combo, one of the signature dishes, included, a lobster tail (first item listed), scallop, shrimp, mussel, and mixed vegetables with black bean sauce. All for $16.95. This looks like a good deal. However, after ordering the dish, I received it with not even a small piece of lobster. I asked the waitress about the lobster and after she inquired the kitchen was told that they did not have lobster. I then asked the waitress whether they would adjust the price. She went and asked the manager and, the manager instead of coming over to explain why the lobster was not included and whether the price would be adjusted, the manager sent the waitress instead to tell me that they were not going to adjust the price. I was very upset because this was obviously done intentionally. The moment they realized they did not have any lobster to make the dish, they could have let me know about it so that I could change the order. I do not know of any restaurant that does not do that. They instead decided to cook the dish with the intention of denying a price adjustment and making more money. I could have pursued this further with the manager but it became clear to me that this is a scheme that they have to rip customers out of their money any time they have a chance. I can only imagine how many customers have been ripped off this way. At this point, I am not interested in being reimbursed for a few dollars. I have filed a complaint with Tom Miller, the attorney general of Iowa and I would like everyone with a similar experience to do the same. This appears to be a restaurant with a pricing scam that should pay a hefty fine for having a scheme to rip people off. It should go out of business for good.
