Our waiter was very responsive and the atmosphere and decor was artsy and posh. The fried green tomatoes were good, served with pimento cheese dip. The caesar salad was excellent with just enough dressing and homemade chunky, flavorful croutons. The She-crab soup was delicious, not too spicy and seasoned just right. Several of us had salads and all said they were very good. Several more had various variations of their filet burger but this is where we were disappointed. The 1/2 pound burgers come in 3 options, classic, swiss mushroom and bacon cheddar. The group at out table ordered a variety of them all, some ordering rare, some medium rare, some medium well and one well. It took the green tomatoes about 20 minutes to come out and the restaurant was nearly empty. It took an additional 10 minutes to get our drinks. It took almost 50 minutes to get our main courses served - and the first thing we noticed is that all the burgers were well done. Not one bit of pink in any burger. Some opted to eat them well done, as they found them still juicy and well seasoned. Others sent them back and they brought back replacements quickly, but the second try also brought well done burgers. Those at the table who had already eaten their burgers said that the texture of the filet burger was like a beef pate, as if they had ground the filet and the hamburger to a fine grind then grilled it, so it had a bit of a peculiar soft texture, neither a filet or a hamburger. They were also over salted.
Having shared this, I would definitely return to the Porterhouse for the chicken Caesar salad or the She-crab soup, as it was delicious, but if I were in the mood for a burger, I wouldn't return here. Also if you are on a short time schedule, ie, having a business lunch and you only have an hour or an hour and a half you might run out of time to eat. They need some work in the kitchen/with the chef. If they will resolve these issues, they could do a booming business.

Its specialty may be prime rib and steaks, but the salmon is my favorite. It also serves rabbit, roast duck, and chicken among other entrees. The she crab soup is wonderful. Try it. The wine list is more than adequate, especially if you're buying by the bottle. However, the restaurant isn't as dull as this site's description makes it out to be, and I've never noticed sandwiches on the menu (except its burger). The service ranges from occasionally forgetful to most often discretely attentive. Great bar area, even for dining.
