10/02/2014 - Bride in October
Wow!!! Bride of Fall said it EXACTLY right. I feel like that is the same experience I received. The gratuity is a high for the total expense especially when you are not told and prepared for this. I always wondered why Lisa acted that way on my wedding day when I thought she was there to help. I myself did not see Lisa on my wedding day until she came to get money for the alcohol. Also turned lights out when family and friends were still in the building on rehearsal night. How embarrassing!!! Lisa could have simply told me 'time up' and we would have left ASAP. Also crew started cleaning and taking down decorations before my time was up on my wedding day. Most of the guests had already left thank goodness or that would have been another embarrassing moment for me. The place is absolutely beautiful and the only part I would fix is Lisa's attitude. She just seems 'over it' and no bride wants to feel like that. Maybe the family that owns this place should get a new family member to take on Lisa's role bc she def left a bad taste in my mouth!

Southern Oaks is a beautiful place to have a wedding for inside or outside events(more for the inside) I do have a couple negatives about the venue that I would like to share: 1) Be sure to include taxes and gratuity when budgeting the cost. I spent an extra $4000 on this which I did not know was in with the price and also was not mentioned to me when I booked. It's a 9% tax on the food and then an 18% gratuity expense. By all means these people deserve a tip and I would have most definitely planned on giving a fair share but 18% on the total cost of a wedding... Wow!!! 2) The lady(Lisa) who was in charge of my event was not very personable and seemed more concerned of just "getting it done" than really wanting to make it a special day. I was hoping she would handle the "little" details that brides sometimes look over but she did not. Actually the ONLY time I saw her on my wedding day was when she informed me that we were at our budget of the alcohol. And at the rehearsal I did not see her at all except when they rudely turned off the lights as soon as my hour was up(to the exact 1 hour) while relatives, friends, and photographer was still in the building. 3) While I had a fabulous room to get ready for my big day, my groom and groomsmen did not. They were given a room with only chairs. I would have liked for the guys to have a tv, fridge, radio or something for a lil entertainment. 4) I paid for a dance floor that was already down to begin with. We could have danced on the carpet in my opinion. All in all I did have a beautiful wedding but for the money I paid for I feel I should have received better treatment and accommodations. The positives are the flowers and arrangements were absolutely beautiful. And the food was awesome. I just feel like I was ripped off for the final cost of the venue. Also I know Southern Oaks deals with brides on a daily basis but Lisa could have been more personal and friendly seeing that it was MY special day!!!
