I had a fantastic experience at the local general store in Makawao. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful as I stopped by on my way to Haleakala a few months before the fire. The store had a cozy feel and offered delicious, elevated local food like fresh sandwiches and sliders. It was a great place to pick up snacks, drinks, and even had a friendly cat on the counter.
