The paella here is a real treat, bursting with unique flavors that make it stand out from the usual fare. The salads, although simple, are surprisingly delicious and pair well with the Mexican cuisine. We have been going to El Mexicano ever since they opened 11 years ago. The food is teriffic and the drinks rate right up there. As I read in another review, you are treated like family. My wife and have a great deal of fun when we go there. Please go, you'll be glad you did!

Having grown up in Southern California and often travelling South of the Border, I was looking for authentic Mexican Food. I had to settle for lower quality, less fulfilling experiences, until El Mexicano came in to town. I am now a regular, and they know me by name. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Great food! I never go anywhere else for my weekly Mexican Food fix. Tell the owner, Luis, hello. He'll treat you like family.

I have always had a great experience here and have never had to wait to be seated. I took friends from out of town here and they loved the food, service and prices!!!

Friends had told me about this great Mexican Restaurant, and I happened to be in Kankakee, so I stopped, expecting the great decor, good service, excellent food and fair prices as my friends had told me. There were three people that walked in right before me.They were seated almost immediately. I waited. 2 servers served drinks,salsa and chips, took orders, and chatted with each other. After a few minutes, my broken foot was throbbing and a fellow customer who was checking out, pulled out a chair, saying why don't you sit while waiting. I waited and waited. No one stopped by to tell me they would be with me soon. I waved, made eye contact with the servers, and still waited. After 15 minutes of being ignored, I left, disappointed, frustrated and hungry. The food may be excellent, but it does no good if they don't seat and serve you!
