Stepping into the Canteen felt like a nostalgic journey back in time with engaging staff, bustling lunch hour crowd, delicious food options like the low-carb bowl and classic buns, mouthwatering malts, and a cozy atmosphere that exuded old-fashioned charm - a true gem in Ottumwa that's definitely worth a visit!

My mom and dad hail from large Ottumwa families. Dad was a hog buyer for Morrells and transfered to the Iowa City area in 1952. My older sis was born at St.Joe's, me at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. We spent all holidays back in the O, and I was introduced to a canteen at 3 or so. Had two today at lunch, mustard/onion, slice of cherry pie and a cup of black coffee. I'm now 69 and hadn't had one since 2013. They haven't skipped a beat, classic ladies makin my dreams come true, they were "killer!" I promised not to wait another decade, the food needs go be enjoyed! Thank you, gals!
