Latino food at El Rinconcito. Spanish for "the corner", El Rinconcito (whose sign says Latin Cuisine in very big letters for those without google translation services on their phone). Although not quite on the corner, this cute little hole-in-the-wall is inconspicuously tucked into a small strip of restaurants flanked by a horde of fast-food chains where JTB meets US 1.While their menu contains items from the general Latin American region, their specialty is Colombian cuisine. Colombian food takes its influence from European, African, and indigenous cuisines. What you get in turn is a blending of the regional chillies and spices with the stodginess of the grain and bean based cuisine of Africa and Europe's heavy use of meat. Latin American staples, like cassava (yuca), plantains, beans, rice, and corn, are featured quite prominently. They also happen to be incredibly and genuinely nice. This seems to be a common theme among small, regional or ethnic focused restaurants. Rather than being happy to take your money, they seem more enthusiastic about sharing their food and culture. And a warm smile can be one of the best ingredients in a good meal out.

I’m and American with Panamanian roots and I just recently move from N.Y, house of the best restaurants in the world. My reason for saying it: I’ve been in many countries in Europe. N.Y has any style, any dish any ethnic food; you name it. I regret for leaving such an awesome city with so much variety of restaurants. At first, when I was given the opportunity to move to Florida I thought Jacksonville was a little town and would never enjoy good food again, specially my Latino food. I was in a couple of restaurants the other day and they were just average; until my new associate told me about The Latin Cuisine, my Rinconcito is how he called it. The flavor at this restaurant remains me the few times I visited Panama and my grandmother would pamper me and my brother with those wonderful flavor dishes and desserts. I highly recommend this restaurant. CF

It was recommended by our friend as nice place to stop by and have an inexpensive dinner. Not to say much. The service is great and the food quality and flavor even super pass some of the best Latino restaurant in Miami. This is a lot to say for a small restaurant in the middle of a huge slowed down city like Jacksonville. Congratulations to The Latin Cuisine.
