JL and JC Need to stay where they live and don't visit local establishments while on vacation. You guys just go ahead and stay with the chain restaurants. Chowder Ted's has been very good place for us to stop at the 10 years we've been going.

It's not a clam base chowder but a vegetable soup but it's the best I've ever had. Been going for many years and it's great staff and great owner.

We always try to support small businesses and regularly look for new places to eat. However with as small as this restaurant is it lacked in giving much required info so it's diners would know what to expect. Simple statements on the menu would have been sufficient.
The chowder was a huge disappointment as we were expecting a clam white based soup. Not the tomato based stew. And it wasn't great at all.
We should've been told there are no refills on the sodas but wasn't so was dissatisfied to find this out later.
Service could have been better.
We do wish you all the best but suggest that some minor additions to the menu could make all the difference in your future business.

Sorry folks...I'm probably going to piss off a lot of regulars...but I just don't get it. I read all of the great reviews. 4.5 - 5.0, told me that THIS was the place to go for a GREAT bowl of chowder. I couldn't wait to go. Well, finally I went...and to my absolute dismay, I couldn't have been more disappointed. This place called "CHOWDER TED'S" had ONE ITEM on the menu that contained the word "Chowder," and it wasn't even a featured item, as you would expect at a place called 'Chowder Ted's," It was merely an appetizer. There was no option of New England or Manhattan, as one would expect from a place sounds like it centers around "Chowder." Nevertheless, I ordered the Chowder... I figured, if someone has the gaul to name his establishment "Chowder Ted's" and have only ONE variety of Chowder on the menu, this ONE dish, had better be a pretty damn AWESOME bowl of CHOWDER!! I was totally disappointed. The chowder was the tomato based "Manhattan" variety...but resembled nothing I'd ever had.
As a 57 year old Florida Native, I have had MANY bowls of chowder In my life... so I'm no stranger to what a good bowl of chowder tastes like. This wasn't event close...in fact, I'd rank it dead last.
Now, my aforementioned disappointment was not due to an absence of a New England variety on the menu...I happen to enjoy both. My problem was the fact that THIS was not ANYTHING like I expected. The "Chowder" was HORRIBLE. The weak broth tasted like ketchup and water, seasoned with Tabasco and black pepper. I found what looked like a few pieces of "Clam" at the bottom of my ''Bucket"...all of the vegetables were cut unnecessarily large and were under-cooked. One piece of unpeeled potato crunched as I bit it, (Was that dirt?) What a disappointment! I sincerely believed at first, that I was the victim of a bad prank, as a "First-time" patron, and that any moment, my waitress was going to emerge from the kitchen with a PROPER Chowder... but NOOOOO. It was serious. This was actually the dish that gave "Chowder Ted's" it's name. I wish now, that I'd at least ordered something else, so I might have something positive to say...but I just paid my check and slinked out of there. (Is there someone who rated this place "5 Stars" that can tell me what went wrong? Was it new ownership?... new cook? What?)
In closing, I'm a firm believer in patronizing local restaurants, and I DO intend to go back for another try...but I think I'll try one of the Shrimp dishes. After all...there were at least 4 or 5 items that contained the word SHRIMP. I suppose the name "Shrimp Ted's" doesn't sound as good...
