10/30/2024 - Jimmy W.
Service was quick, wings arrived piping hot, and the beer was refreshingly cold. The atmosphere at this bar is relaxed and welcoming, making it a great spot to unwind. The menu offers a variety of delicious options, but the unique Bloody Marys are a standout choice.
10/19/2013 - Jeff
I live in Madison. Business takes me up to LaCrosse about every other year, and every year I go up for the Oktoberfest races at the LaCrosse County Fairgrounds. (If you're a racing fan, it's a 5/8ths mile asphalt track with a NASCAR sanction, and Oktoberfest Race Weekend is the last big event of the season. Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday afternoon. 16+ hours of racing over 4 days)
I discovered the Alpine Inn about 10 years ago, and EVERY time I'm near LaCrosse I go in for lunch and a few beers. (If I'm up there for the Oktoberfest races, I go in every day for lunch) It's nothing spectacular, just a slightly run down country bar on the side of a big hill. And I love that place.
They have an excellent beer selection.
I was just up there last week, and they had LaCrosse Amber and LaCrosse Oktoberfest among the other selections. (The LaCrosse brewery has started brewing their own stuff again. The regular LaCrosse beer I always found very underwhelming but the Amber and the Oktoberfest were both very good)
The Bloody Mary's are pretty good. If you order the Bloody Mary spicy, you get vodka from a jug that has hot peppers floating in it. The Bloody mary comes with cubes of pepper jack cheese, beef jerky, a green olive, and a pickle. If you ask nice, one of the sassy bartender girls will give you extra cubes of pepper jack . . .
For food I'd recommend the world famous Bluff Burger, the Cordon blue, the Cajun Burger or the Cajun Chicken. The Mushroom & Swiss burger is okay. I prefer the beer battered or waffle fries.
If you go there on a Saturday of a Badger game, the place is packed with people watching the game & drinking bloody mary's and it'll take a long time to get your food. I've never been in there during a Packer game but I'd expect the same.
I have ALWAYS had good service there. On the weekend there are lots of sassy and slightly crazed bartender girls to banter with. If you go up there during the week, maybe not . . .
It's NOT fancy but it has it's own unique atmosphere.
