By far, the best bakery on the Island!!

If I could have given Dortoni zero stars, I would have. I have had two terrible experiences in ordering very expensive cakes from them, and my story needs to be heard by anyone looking into them. I first ordered a groom's cake for my rehearsal dinner for my wedding. The cake was $700. It was intricate and three tiered. I ordered it a couple of months in advance and paid in full. I called three days ahead of time to confirm the order. The order did not show up at the restaurant as scheduled. At first I was lied to saying it was out for delivery, but the truth was it had never been made. The bakery had the wrong date. When they scrambled to put it together, you could tell. The fish on the cake was upside down. It arrived after half of my guests had left and the restaurant had supplemented the dessert. What is worse is that I spent the night before my wedding on the phone with a bakery. My family and friends were also on the phone trying to help me so that I could enjoy my rehearsal dinner.
I ended up getting a FULL refund for that cake and a sincere apology. I should have learned my lesson not to return, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since I felt they rectified the first situation. Last month I ordered a medical school graduation cake for my husband. I brought two photos to them, one with the inscription, and the other with the colors. I told them that I was returning in light of what happened and the manager insisted I would be taken good care of by her personally. We wrote out the order form with a detailed description, labeled the photos 1 and 2 and detailed which details should come from each photo. My husband graduated as a DO, not an MD, and I specifically stated over and over that the cake should say DO like photo #1, not MD like photo #2. The manager assured me she would check it personally and that I should call her the night before and remind her to do so. When I called the cake was still being made and she reviewed the details on the order form with me and assured me she would check it before leaving for the day.
The cake arrived at the restaurant incorrect with an inscription of MD. This was a $300 cake, so at this point Dortoni has messed up $1000 worth of cakes for me. I called and spent much of my party again on the phone with them. I could not fathom this would happen to one customer twice with the same bakery. They assured me they would send someone out with a new top tier to replace the wrong inscription. When the delivery man (not baker) arrived he had a fondant plaque stuck to a piece of cardboard. He could not get it off the cardboard and it became mangled and smashed as he placed it over the letters "MD" on the cake. I could not display the cake, and again, I worried about the cake during one of my happy occasions. I would love to post photos of the terrible job they did repairing the cake.
This time I was only offered a half refund and a very measly $50 gift card that I never plan to use. I am baffled that one bakery could treat one customer so poorly twice and lose almost $1000 plus a lot of future business.
