You won't find a better poboy in town than at Bear's Restaurant. The roast beef and shrimp options are incredible, and the generous portions make it a must-try for anyone in Covington.

Although I now live in Maryland (4 seasons) one of the things I can say I truly miss is Bears Po'boys. I was a loyal patron since they were in front of the Ace hardware store in Mandeville, and remained so when they moved 5 blocks from my home in Covington. For my waist, I'm grateful that I had to move, for my taste buds, I truly regret having to move.
Each and every time I come home to the Covington/Mandeville area, Bears is one of the places I will not miss stopping by. I especially like bringing others who mistakenly believe their po'boy shop is "the best'. Once they try Bears, their minds are changed. It's an amazing thing to see.
Thanks for always being there, and not changing your menu. :-) If only there was a way to ship your awesome goodness to Maryland....

I have eaten roast beef poboy's everywhere I could find them. And believe me I have been around I traveled for 25 years 10 to 11 months out of the year and nobody I mean nobody has a roast beef poboy as good as Bears in Covington Louisiana. My favorite is the bbq roast beef poboy. I give Bears five stars and the closest one to it only got a three star.

We have been going to Bear's for about 35 years, ever since it was in a little trailer in front of the Ace Hardware store in Mandeville. Without question, still the BEST poboys on the Northshore (and we've eaten at many, many poboy restaurants)! Their roast beef is absolutely the best you'll find, the barbeque is awesome, the ham (my husband's favorite) is grilled, and the shrimp poboy is stuffed beyond belief with shrimp. You can make two meals off any one of Bear's poboys. All delicious!! When my brother comes down to visit from Tennessee, he goes to Bear's before he comes to my house. (Note: I am referring to the Bear's in Covington; there are others around run by other family members; they try hard, but they aren't as good as this one.)

I don't understand the enthusiasm for Bears. I cannot stand their sliced hot roast beef poboy. All I am looking for is a classic hot, poulled apart roast beef poboy! And the meatball poboy? It is more like meatloaf with some marinara sauce on it.
