Well, the Porterhouse Restaurant in Eustis, Maine WAS awesome.
However, it burned down in December, 2008. Very sad and a big loss to our community and visitors..

I'm from the West coast and just about every time I visit my father at Sugarloaf, we go the Porterhouse. I've been there at least 1/2 dozen times and the food has been excellent every time. As far as the "stinky hallway", it is an old Victorian house and restaurant is pretty low key, grass roots. If you are used to swank and chain restaurants, this may not be your cup of tea. Sometimes it's busy and you have to wait, for table and food. It's worth it. No snobbery allowed!!

we had heard such great things about this place from folks we talked to in rangeley. we figured that so far the locals had been right. we were extremely disappointed. we waited in the stinky hallway for someone to greet us and even though we had a reservation we were asked to wait upstairs in the bar for our table. the bar was sticky to the touch and there was no bartender! by the time she showed up our table was ready downstairs. our waitress mary was the only good thing about our evening. she was very professional & apologetic that my steak was overcooked even though it was clearly not her fault. our dessert was also not homemade cheesecake that another waitress served us and told us was made fresh daily.it tasted like the cardboard box we are sure it came in. to top it all off i stepped in dog feces in the parking lot. i do not think this place was worth the drive from rangeley at all! the locals are not always right.
