My husband and I visited El Patio Live in Hialeah. Although we usually stay in the Broward area, we decided to go because he saw a video on social media and everything looked very appealing.
I ordered the pork with bí©chamel sauce and discovered that the bottom part was raw after my first bite. The waitress suggested that I order another dish on the house, but I preferred not to. When it was time to settle the bill, we noticed a 20% service charge, which we were fine with. However, when I mentioned to the waitress that the tip was already included, she said that the service charge was not the tip and that the tip was additional.
Her attitude shifted to the point where she immediately called another server to explain to my husband that the 20% was not the tip, and that all restaurants in the area did the same thing, with the tip being extra but not required. Honestly, the issue I see here is that, in the end, the customer ends up paying an additional 20% on top of the original 20%, totaling 40% of the bill. In my humble opinion, this is not ok. Who knows how many people don't realize this or pay it out of embarrassment.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
