After a 40-year break, I returned to Birch Terrace, and it still holds its charm with various dining areas, all boasting views of Lake Superior. Our server, Umahan, made the evening memorable with her attentive service as we savored delicious beef brisket and enjoyed the live music from the Folk Art Center.

Terrible service! Was not busy. Were about to leave after 15 minute wait for menus and water. Took almost an hour for ordered sandwiches to be brought to the table. One of worst experiences in Grand Marais. Better food may have saved the day, but it didn't!

My review unfortunately might be inaccurate today, sorry, but years ago we used to get Lake Superior Lake Trout served with drawn butter. It was so memorable, I keep hoping to repeat that experience. When phoning ahead I have discovered I chose the wrong day. Does anyone else know if it is still even on the menu served this way, and is there a calendared schedule for entree selections? I realize it depends upon the catch of the day, but I wondered also if anyone else shares this memory. I remember the fish and the rolls. Both outstanding. I cannot find lake trout with drawn butter on any North Shore online menus.
