Best Food within 100 mile radius. The Allison, the house salad, the fried spinach and the lasagna truly can't be beat. This is worth the drive, wherever you are coming from.

Really nice experience in an historic small town! The service was excellent never let your drinks run dry, the finished plates were removed as soon as they were empty! And the food was excellent! The portions are huge. We will be back soon!!

My husband could not have put it better than this! This man ruined my 20th anniversary with his pride and arrogance
Don't Bother making reservations at Hawthorne's restaurant and confirming them they give you excuses for making a mistake
When I pointed out to the owner I spoke with him recently about making sure our 20th Anniversary went smootly he denied it. Even though during the call he reassured me it would be perfect. He didn't confirm time. He couldn't find his glasses and said "That looks right. I'll get my glasses and make sure."
I pointed out that he was wrong and he told us to leave. I made the reservation in December and confirmed 5 days ago and spoke to the owner at that time. They have gotten to the point where they only care about MONEY!!! That is just terribly SAD 😥
They only see YOU as DOLLAR sign
It used to be a wonderful experience. Those days are gone. It's truly a shame.

Now the owner says I called him names. That is not true! I said "Excuses are like buttholes. Everyone has one and they are full of crap."
How would you feel when you triple confirmed the time. Twice with the very person who denied talking to you just a few days before. And you really need the ONLY milestone 20th anniversary. Publicly calling you a liar by stating over and over how there was no way that we talked on the phone. Once in December to make reservation . Once, in January to make sure it made it into new book( they were very busy at that time) so I called when I arranged flowers to be delivered. Then just a few days before to discuss corking fees and what types of champagne they carry. Then vehemently denied talking with me as if I'm making it all up. At this place the customer will never be right unless the staff is handling your order.
The owner is just upset. Because the above is true. And they are once again making excuses.
If he thinks I was calling him profanities. My wife did after he was an embarrassment to himself and his staff. And YELLED at us to leave. My wife had a few profanities for him in the car. As we were put last in line. Just as if we were a dollar sign. So I tried to remind the owner and he almost admitted recalling the phone transaction. Where I asked about a corking fee. Yet, as he started to shake his head in accknowledgment. He then very quickly restated "no I never talked to you. The only owner is me and a lady( he said woman)" I said then you do recall?. He became forceful and said we would have to wait until others were seated because he did not go back and check the time as I did each time I called.
I like how when you tell the truth. People like to try and say things. Yet, the truth is the truth. I was trying to be pithy. But the owner wants to publicly call me a liar now. After doing it multiple times at HAWTHORNE INN. Now publicly????
Really? That's just terrible. Be honest!
Have some integrity! Especially when providing a service. I've been in the service industry and dealt with very mean people. I never handled things this way.
It is a sad world when people can't even set aside their pride long enough to realize I could remove this review if it weren't true and they showed even a small amount of integrity.
I hope this helps someone decide for themselves.
Just sad I even replied to him on messenger. It was more excuses. So now this. How about swallowing your pride. Admit you made a mistake. And then we're extremely disrespectful to customets who made a reservation.

Noisy, overpriced, mediocre food best describe the Hawthorne Inn. Service was good. My wife really liked her chicken that she ordered, but my ribeye steak was not very good. Usually you season a meat to enhance the flavor of it, but this had so much pepper and seasonings that you couldn't even taste it. I should have sent it back.
