I visited this restaurant a few months ago for the first time. My experience was mixed. I visited again recently and had a similar experience.
The clam chowder is fabulous. I'm from Maine and I can be a bit picky about clam chowder and theirs was, in my opinion, exceptional. Large pieces of clam that I could actually taste-and the potato to clam ratio was perfect (lots of clams and not too many potatoes).
As always, the creamed spinach and green beans were delicious. I don't know how they get the green beans so perfectly cooked every time.
It went down hill from there, sad to say.
At $4.50 each, the crab cakes were disappointing. I prefer crab cakes to have lump crab meat-which provides not only great crab taste, but texture as well. These cakes had, I guess, body meat because there was not a single lump in either of the two cakes I ordered. The result was a crab case, unimpressive in taste and also texture. I ate 1/2 of one cake and discarded the rest.
I was looking forward to the fish tacos. The flavor was good but sadly the fish pieces were rather small, and over-breaded. The fish in one of the tacos was undercooked. Perhaps the grilled fish taco would be a better choice, for me anyway. I'll never know.
I'll go back at some point and get more chowder-and try the lobster bisque which I expect will be very good. But, no more crab cakes or fish tacos for me. I will keep trying new dishes because they have a very nice menu.
Just to comment on my earlier first visit-the scallops were very good-the lobster roll, for anyone who knows what a lobster roll should taste like (or look like), was disappointing. Lobster rolls are an easy recipe-roll, lobster, butter or mayo or both. They don't need all the spicy topping-it disguises the flavor of the lobster.
