This was a cute place and we had high hopes for it. My BFF and I just got done with a photoshoot in Julian when we decided Farmhouse 78 looked like it would hit the spot. The exterior and interior decor is spot on for a classic modern farm. There was a laminate in the front that had a QR code to scan their menu. We were greeted by an employee (not wearing a mask) and brought to a table and give 2 paper menus that appeared to be "used" It looked as if it had been wet and dried again and crumply on some parts. Why have a QR code if you are giving out menus? Out of the entire staff we saw of 10, 2 were were wearing masks. We kept our masks on the entire time until food arrived as we usually do in restaurants. The server arrived with hers around her neck. There was no social distancing with employees with guests. It is difficult to do that and hear but wearing no masks keeps everyone vulnerable. The food presentation was nice and it was tasty. Halfway through the meal someone came to fill up our waters. The ice was getting in the way of the water and not coming out and she proceeded to put her finger across the spout and then pour the water into our glasses. We both looked at each other with a "did that just happen" We asked our actual server for new waters and told her the story and she was sorry and knew who it was but didn't seem surprised at all. Even in non corona world, that is not acceptable in a restaurant setting. We were appalled by the fact they had the signs up to be safe (the outside literally has a sign up that says we are making sure you are safe) yet they don't practice that.
It seems that it is up for show only incase the city stops by the make sure they're in compliance. Witnessing the tables being "wiped" was a quick wipe with a dish rag and nothing else. There was no sanitizing at all which made me think, our table was probably dirty. Go elsewhere if you care about your safety because they sure don't.
