Great, day or night.

On the map, Assado is only a short distance from the Portuguese neighborhood of Newark's Ironbound, but food-wise it couldn't be farther from the cuisine of that neighborhood!

Across the board, disappointment was the experience of a dinner there recently. Garlic shrimp, a staple appetizer was bland, lacking the traditional garlicky, lemony flavor one expects. Like one of the other reviewers, the porterhouse I ordered was a poor quality of meat. Tough and chewy to the point that it was unpleasant to eat and a was way overpriced!

My party was equally disappointed with the bacalao and shrimp entrees ordered. They even neglected to serve the traditional rice, vegetables and "potato chip" fries with the entrees. Even the flan dessert was disappointing!

Maybe this kind of food is acceptable in Livingston, but with so many better restaurants a few miles away in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood, why settle for so much less?
