Stopping at Mel's in Cuba was a delicious surprise - the BBQ brisket sandwich was pure bliss.

As a local of Cuba, we try to support the small businesses.
We have ate here about 3 times, 2 of which were pretty good ordering chicken tenders and a green chile cheese burger.

Today we went to order thr same thing.

They weren't to terribly busy,but a few people waiting.
We ordered, and sat for over 30 min.
Then when our food was ready. 1. They put a box into a paper bag. 2. They handed me everything, the bag broke, my burger fell to ground. I was already frustrated. And didn't want to wait for another. So I asked for a refund. And went home. Should have checked the box.
3. Got home. Opened box and it was an 8 piece of chicken, not TENDERS. Oh and fries which are normally really good, were soggy and full of grease, along with the chicken.
We paid about $30 and left a tip. To not get what we had ordered.

It was so frustrating, didn't feel like going back to talk about it, as they didn't seem to care.

So sad! As this place is a hit or miss, depending on who is working and who is cooking.

In the end, we didn't even eat it, the chicken wasn't even tender.

Wish I could leave a good review for a local.

In this small town we have a very limited selection when it comes to eating out. I have called ahead to get my chicken cooked fresh- and every time I hear- " oh I just cooked a full tray 10 min ago!" I ordered a rack of ribs and it was obviously cooked in a crock pot- fatty and greasy and just wrong! I ordered chicken strips and as always there were about 6 semi fresh pcs on top and the rest were dry and hard enough to crack a tooth. The rib temperature was 120' and the bottom chicken was about 80' and was horrible. The bbq sauce was watered down too. Food must be served at a safe temp
Of at least 140'. I spent $36.00 and I will
NEVER return to this place. And yes I carry a small thermometer in my purse!
Worst place in Cuba.

Every year we drive from Oklahoma to Utah. On the way we alway stop at Mels just for their fried chicken. We also stop on the way back. It's one of our favorite places to stop. Great food and reasonable. Plus plenty of parking space for our 35 foot RV.
