Finally made it out on Father's Day only to have a very bad experience. A neat place to check out, but no opportunity to really try their beers or food. They had quite a few patrons, maybe half full. But with only 2 couples seated at the bar and 3 employees behind the bar, we walked in and stood at the bar for 4 or 5 mins without being greeted by anyone. The 3 behind the bar talked and put away glasses and 1 looked at us but said nothing. We finally asked if they were pouring beer today. They said, Yeah, if it will pour. ? Then they added that they were real busy. ? We ordered 1 beer and rcvd it, ordered a 2nd and they could not pour it. Ordered a 3rd, they could not pour it. So ordered a 2nd glass of the Big House IPA. It was a tasty IPA, although served warmer than you would want. Paid for the 2 beers at the bar with cash. I note that because they said the first beer was $6 and when they sat down the second beer they said that is $6 as well. And that ladies and gentleman, was all the interaction we had with anyone for the rest of our visit! We sat at a table near the "hostess" stand and right near the bar. Several servers walked right by us, but never spoke, never asked if we needed a menu or anything at all! We were shocked to say the least. We finished our beers and went on to another establishment and spent our money there. WOW!?

A MOST excellent oyster po'boy (be sure to ask for extra remoulade sauce). The black bean mushroom burger was also very tasty, although a bit on the loose side as it's a homemade burger. I didn't find any mushroom flavor in it though it might be what made loose.
Their dark specialty beers are full flavored and full bodied.
Working my way through their menu, worth the trip.

Great food and great ambiance . Very clever how they have taken a state historic penitentiary and turned it into a gathering place.
