Restaurant Description
Specialties
We are a family business that has been in operation for the past 90 years, by the same family that started it all. We pride ourselves on our decades old home made recipes that we use each and every single day. We are the first "pizza place" in Punxsutawney and still serve the same delicious pizza we did when we started over 70 years ago. We offer a free private side meeting room for up to 25, and have a spacious dining room with a salad bar. Our menu consists of our home made Italian dishes, pizza's, wings, seafood, and popular everyday dishes. There is something for everyone to enjoy at The New Anchor Inn.
We house a private banquet room which we rent out at no cost. It is beautifully decorated and can comfortably accommodate 120 guests. It is available by reservation only, and reservations fill up quickly. It has been used for birthday parties, sporting banquets, holiday parties, dances, and more!
History
Established in 1925.
The Anchor Inn opened on September 1925. It was owned by the Longo family. The original Anchor Inn included a gas station, bar, restaurant, potato chip factory, fire work outlet, and a bed and breakfast.
In 1939, a decision was made to build a new building to house the restaurant across the street from the original Anchor Inn. The new building opened for business in the summer of 1941 and took the name "The New Anchor Inn", which remains the same today.
Rose and Charles Setree purchased the New Anchor Inn from the original owners in 1953. Rose was the daughter of the original owners and had plenty of experience working in the family business growing up.
In 2009, Rose's son Dave and wife Vickie purchased The New Anchor Inn. After a fire destroyed the building, it was rebuilt and opened again in 2012. The restaurant remains in operation today under the Setree family, and they still serve many of the original dishes.

Arriving around 5pm, the place was peaceful with only a few others there. The service was excellent, but the drink options were limited. I enjoyed the lasagna and my husband had the sirloin, which was slightly undercooked, along with shrimp skewers. The peanut butter pie and coconut cream pie were both outstanding. Overall, I would definitely return to this restaurant in town for their delicious pizza, pasta, and desserts. The atmosphere was cozy, and despite feeling a bit underdressed, I had a pleasant dining experience. I look forward to visiting again in the future, especially after their recent renovations following a fire.

Went for dinner on a Sunday. Was the only people in the restaurant. Ordered Chicken Parm. The chicken looked to be a frozen chicken patty that was cold inside. Looks like there is not alot of turn over to have fresh food instead of frozen. Not happy..

Great Staff! Delicious Margarita! There's something for everyone to eat, and so far we haven't been disappointed. Their food is always great quality, not something I can say for everywhere else in this small town!!
