Great place to eat! I've received nothing but the best food and customer service everytime I go. Owner and staff are good people and are invested in serving quality food and service. I'm sure if you're a newbie and never tried, you won't be disappointed.

Dear Jim,
We wanted to take the time to respond to your review and apologize for the happenings of that evening. Please understand that it was not our decision to have your group leave the restaurant or our decision to allow the patron to stay. After the incident and the police arrived, the female officer told us that she was forcing you guys to leave and to have the other person involved stay until all parties had left the premises. Your group was nothing but pleasant and we can only hope that you will try us again in the future. We are sorry for the actions of that particular patron and can only hope that his actions do not reflect the principles of our business. Again, we apologize for what transpired. We highly value all of our customers and deeply appreciate your business. I can honestly say we are not an establishment that allows and tolerates behavior such as that evening.

Myself and a few friends were enjoying our experience, watching the game, when a bar 'regular' walked over and because he didn't like us, assaulted one of my friends. The cops were called and the bar staff instead of having the 'regular' kicked out, allowed him to stay and told the cops to kick us out. From what I was told, there are fights there all the time. Not really a place I would bring my family

I have gone to JP's since it opened. The quality of the food has declined to average at best; service is average also. They have removed a number of items from the menu and not replaced them with alternatives that are as good or superior to the old items. I ordered a steak salad and it took 40 minutes to arrive. The owner made a lame excuse about the staff being short and very busy. The place was not busy. I doubt I will return. There are over a 100 places to eat in the Greater Portland Area and I am sure I can find a place that has good food & service.

i was one of the party of eight. We started off the evening w/a great bartender! It went downhill from there. The food was definitely not up to par! Where oh where, was the manager and/or owner?! And who, pray tell was working in the kitchen?! Surely the chef could not have been present and it's questionable if there was even a cook on board? SO disappointing as previously we enjoyed the atmosphere, the wait staff and the food!!! Now i would venture to say that they need Chef Ramsey!

We were a group of eight that gathered for a holiday get together that turned into a disaster! We were told after we ordered our dinners that they were out of haddock and most of us had ordered a haddock entrees(the haddock was the special for the evening). How do you run out of haddock at a restaurant that specializes in Fish and Chips? We had to substitute for other dinners which were long in coming and disappointing. We were extremely disappointed in the way we were treated and we will never go back. Sad because we really enjoyed Thorntons when it first opened and we were regulars.

Their chili tastes like Mom's sloppy joes, no chili taste or heat. The crab and spinach dip had the consistency of unwhipped heavy cream, and had to be spooned onto the toast. My clams and linguine entree consisted of a pile of linguine topped with seven gritty steamers in the shell. BTW the kitchen told my waitress to tell me the clams were little necks. She was clueless and the cook was a liar. This place may serve a good burger or maybe those folks that give it a 4 or 5 star rating are spending too much time at the bar.

not my favorite place..the waitress put another tables bill on my debit card Feb 5,2011 and today is Feb 15,2011 and the manager told me today she credited my card over a week ago..my bank says different..what bothers me is how many times I called and no calls returned..this is their fault but I'm the one who's paying for their mistake with the time I now have to do at the bank to dispute this..all they had to do is give me a god damn gift card and I would be happy,so support your local business and get ripped off!! It with great displeasure that I write the horrible review. Been to JP a number of time but his trip trumps all. Saturday night, Valentine weekend we went for a relaxing night out. Unfortunately the food and service was the worst I have experienced in my life. Waitress was given way too many tables to service to start. She then messed up our drink order which was no big deal...she corrected it without hesitation. We both ordered the Fillet, mine was ordered "medium". When the meals were brought out one of the fillets was a mere half the size of the other. The larger portion which was mine was very rare. I picked away at the rest of my meal while waiting for the waitress to return which took so long the rest of my meal was gone. She arrived and I told her my stake was not cooked nearly enough. She returned it to the kitchen. After about 10 minutes she returned to the table asking if my steak had come back yet, which it had not. She returned with a new steak which was half the size of the original and again extremely rare. When I told her she said, 'well you ordered in medium rare and this appears to be medium'. So both times she put the order in wrong. I told her to forget the whole order. My partner had finished eating and we were ready to go. Here's the disgusting part....they thought they did me a favor by removing my meal from the bill. As far as I can see it they should have done much more. The was the absolute least they could do. I paid for the meal, no tip and left hungry. Oh and did I mention the owner stopped by to apologize. Whoopie ding. Do the right thing for your customers. I think I will send them a bill for the meal I had to buy after I left.

We love Thornton's!! Simply the best food around w a great atmosphere - Fish and chips are standard setting - Pub burger worth going back again and again for. Kudos to the chef!!

Long time customer and always have had great meals and service. Although the male bartender that was on the original bar last night needs to get a personality and be more attentive to the patrons.

Not sure if "LT" and "Newly Disappointed" have the right place. I've been to Thornton's at least 40 times and have never had a bad meal or service as they describe it.

I have been in twice and the waitstaff is horrible. The food was okay but I would rather pay more and get better service. I also tried calling to book a room for a function and the girl on the phone kept directing me to the website. Very poor customer service, I wouldn't reccommend them to anyone

Bartender - Rude
Food - Great at first but recently nose-dived into an abyss of sub-par inconsistent fare

Party of 10 arrived for a festive gathering and we left with broken hearts. Please mend !!!

I expect when I order something that it's gets made the way I order it. The food is typically awesome; however I don't think they've ever made my food right the first time. Perhaps reading an order slip instead of assuming would work!!

The quality of the filet, mashed potatoes and greens cannot be beaten in the state for 15 bucks...rave on. I eat everywhere and this is a personal fave.

You won't find better food for these prices. I'm always amazed at how good the food is and how small the check is at the end of the meal. Probably the BEST bruschetta I've ever had.
