Skirt steak well prepared and scallops tasty. However, the restaurant was very overheated temperature wise and both dishes and chowder were too heavily peppered. Guess heat is their idea of cuisine.

The team service staff concept was poor. Timing of food delivery and requests to staff fell short of adequate. For instance, when dessert was ordered to share, server said he would bring multiple spoons. When the dessert was delivered by somebody else-no silverware, used dirty silverware left on the table. Food was generally good, though clams were gritty. Not in a hurry to go back. They need to get their collective act together...

So many great places to eat in Portland now...but Scales is now my favorite. Amazing design, delicious food, great service and festive atmosphere. What else could you want for a special night out?
