My experience with the Sportsman bar and grill was in 1962 when we moved to Portland me. I was the younger brother to Eve Andrews who was married to Tony Severino. Have spent many days at the restaurant after school until my parents picked me up. That was a time I dined with some of the finest Italian food there was. The Sportsman Bar And Grill was one of the top restaurants in the state of Maine. I miss the food greatly especially for the Italian Sandwiches which I favored. Now I am 70 years old and long for those sandwiches. I now reside in the south and the sandwiches they call poboys and submarine here are not of the same quality that I had experience back in 1962. It's good to know the restaurant is still in the Severino family as it should be. Wish I could get that recipe for that Italian Sandwich.
My best wishes to the next generation of the Severino family.
SINCRERLY,
WILLIAM ANDREWS

The best Lasagna and pizza I've ever had. I would definitely go back........

I grew up with the Sportsman's. As a matter of fact it was my first job. I washed dishes there when I was 13 years old. You could do that back in the day with a work permit. Everyone there was so good to me, treated me like I was their kid. From the cooks to the wait staff to the owners. We moved from Maine in 1967. Saddest day in my life. I am now 68 and haven't been back to Maine in 40 years. Going this June. Looked up Sportsman's and was so sad to see it's closed. I supposed nothing lasts forever, not even a childhood dream. 😢

It has been a very long time since this wonderful place closed. But it deserves a review. If only for nostalgia sake. Great ambience! It was part sports bar and part classy dining. The lasagna was delicious! They used sauce that had been cooking all day and had such great flavor! All the pasta and pizza were always cooked to perfection! The steaks were always cooked just right. At each booth they used to have a mini jukebox attached to he wall. It was always super clean and the staff were so friendly and always made you feel welcome. One of the best restaurants from the old days. New foodies you all missed out! RIP Sportsmans!
