I've been a big fan of this little restaurant for years now! It's small but very clean with helpful and friendly staff. We order takeout a lot as well. Try the roll your own wraps with chicken and beef - you won't be disappointed! My husband and I had dinner here and it was excellent. I had the Beef and Spring rolls Vermicelli from the Vietnamese menu, while my husband had the Combination Plate with General Tao Chicken and Mixed Vegetables from the Chinese menu. The grilled beef and spring rolls vermicelli was legit! It was so tasty. The beef was flavourful and also moist and juicy, yet lean and not fatty nor gristely at all. The best of all worlds! I loved the beef and cannot rave enough about it. The spring rolls were good too. Crispy on the outside, with ground pork, vermicelli, onions and carrots inside. The wrapper was the more common wheat wrapper as opposed to the rarer rice paper wrapper, which is in my opinion more delicious, but admittedly not as popular here in Ottawa. The vermicelli was perfectly cooked, and the accompanying vegetables were fresh. I asked for no bean sprouts. I also asked for no fish sauce and was asked if I wanted peanut sauce instead, and I accepted. The peanut sauce was delicious. It didn't have that hoisin flavour that some peanut sauces have that I don't like. It wasn't too rich, but was full of peanut flavour. The portion size of the vermicelli bowl was good too. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. My husband's dish was very Westernized Chinese Food, but it was good for what it was. I had a piece of the General Tao Chicken and it was a bit spicy, but mostly sweet. I liked it. The mixed vegetables were good, but nothing remarkable in my opinion. I found the chicken fried rice a bit on the salty side. My husband enjoyed his meal though. I think that Vietnamese food is their specialty and more authentic. The Chinese food is more Westernized. Given that this restaurant is in a strip mall in Kanata North, I think the Westernized food is to accommodate the desires of the local clientele. They have chopsticks as part of the place settings, but also forks and knives. Service was courteous and efficient. Decor is simple and it's a very casual eatery. It is wheelchair accessible. They serve wine and beer. If you're in Kanata North and craving some good Vietnamese food, you don't have to travel far, there's Phu-Yen! With all due respect, I was a bit surprised to find this gem in a nondescript strip mall in suburbia. Lots of free parking in the strip mall. My kids and I love Chinese food and have tried many places. Mostly disappointed due to one reason or another. We absolutely loved this place and were super impressed with food quality and taste. A favourite regular with great view food and also tasty Chinese meals. If you have not tried it, you are missing one the best meals in Kanata. Solid broth, consistent rice noodles, nice portions. I'm from Toronto so price is a little steep for the size. Although there aren't many alternatives so this is the best you can get. Opened by Cantonese so interesting to see them able to make it pretty authentic. Pick up order ready quickly. Had a full order of Cantonese noodles that wasn't filled to the top of the container like most Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants. Would've been 5 stars if that container was filled. Deep-fried spring rolls delicious. Good variety in food and well-priced. Hot and fast my go-to place for lunch. It is a small place and has been at this location longer than I have. This is a good restaurant and one of our go-to places for group takeout at lunch for work. I don't usually eat in, but doing so when busy is a bit cramped. It's fairly small inside and they have a good number of tables. The food is good, I especially like the crispy batter on the lemon chicken. Great Pho. Great price. Service is extremely fast. Servers not very friendly but do a great job otherwise. I now go once a week for pho for lunch. Rice wraps also outstanding. Just awesome. I used to eat here regularly for lunch when I worked in the neighborhood, and just went back last night for a NYE dinner with friends! Totally awesome, there's a reason it's always full, and why it was given the best restaurant in Kanata in 2010 and has been nominated again for 2012. Good Vietnamese place, you get a decent meal for under $10. Fills up quickly at lunchtime. Takeout is ready within 10 minutes.
