Dee’s Diner was about fifteen miles or so north of Athens on route 33. As we approached the door I noticed a sign in the window saying truck drivers were welcomed.
The menu was fun to read with entrees like the famous Scooby (a sandwich named after Scooby Doo) and hummingbird pie. All the usual entrees were offered and the day’s special was homemade beef noodles. But I had to try the Scooby. It was so big my wife and I cut the sandwich in half and shared the fries but I still could not eat all of them. The waitress said they had the best homemade apple pie in Athens County. After trying a slice I had to agree with her.
God lead us to stop there so I could let you know not all sources of nutrition are at truck stops. Sometimes when you are on the road good food has to trump good time. The stop is worth it. You get good food, great service, a friendly waitress, a pleasant atmosphere, and best of all, they welcome truck drivers.
