Grad party - 11 people including elderly. Reservations at 4:30 on Sunday, only 25% full but seated us at hot, sunny table. When asked to move manager frantic - 'I have 300 people coming tonight - can't move floor plan around for you - sorry!' Slow service after that (payback?) and steaks undercooked, otherwise mediocre except great sangria. Will never return.

I visit Cafe Buenos Aires several times in the past and had a great experience. Out of curiosity I just checked the reviews here and was surprised, so I decided to share my opinion of Cafe Buenos Aires:
Food is most of the time great, only one time my steat was overcooked (got a new one), service is always friendly, some servers are exceptional others are ok (like most servers these days), ambiance is always great. Give them an opportunity.

Isn't this place out of business yet? The food is of very poor quality and the service as bad as it gets. Not recommended!!!

Our meals were tasteless. The service is mediocre at best and the server had an arrogance about him that was a big turn-off.

What we thought was going to be a good night out in Santa Barbara turned into a night of bad food and food related illness. The three of us all got sick within an hour and a half of leaving this place. We each had a different entree, but we all had the bread with the oil and garlic and an order of fried sweet potatoes. We questioned the server about the taste of the potatoes and his reply was "I will ask about them" The server never mentioned it again until we asked about it again with the check. He told us the manager said the potatoes were fine. We had a chicken dish, a beef dish and a seafood dish all of which were of very poor quality.

We ate there last week while traveling from LA to Pismo. We got started late in the day and decided to stay over in Santa Barbara. While walking State Street we noticed the restaurant and it's nice courtyard. We had a very bad dinner..... our food had no flavor with the exception of the sliced, fried greasy potato's that had a very unusual taste and were completely uneatable. After searching the internet today I realized that I am not the only person complaining about Cafe Beunos Aires. We should have listened to the concierge at the hotel who told us not to eat at Cafe Buenos Aires......

IT'S AMAZING HOW MANY OF US HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT CAFE BUENOS AIRES IN SANTA BARBARA. THE STEAK WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE THE SIDE DISH WAS UNIDENTIFIABLE AND UNRECOVERABLE. HOW CAN CAFE BUENOS AIRES STAY OPEN WITH SUCH BAD FOOD.

We had a terrible time at this place. Bad food, slow service and very pricey.

I never encountered such bad food in all of my life. We had a chicken dish that tasted like nothing and a steak that was tough filled with tendons and just blah. When we complained they looked at us like we were nuts. Our server was talking to a man in the service area and we over heard him say, these people don't know what good Argentine food is and I will make them pay regardless of how loud they make a fuss

We ate there for the first time last week. The food was bland, pricey and service was terrible. This is why they are going out of business.

This is one of the most beautiful restaurant settings in Santa Barbara: the outdoor patio with the fountain and trumpet vines growing all around, live music... and the inside dining room is lovely as well with a rich European decor. The food was delicious (the steaks and seafood were perfectly cooked!) and beautifully presented. Our server was knowledgeable about the food and wine and totally attentive. Everything completely exceeded our expectations!!!

Went here for the first time for New Year's Eve. I am not a fussy eater by any stretch, but some of it was virtually inedible. Of course on NYE the service was sub par, but so was the entertainment, since the whole place echoes and all I could hear was people screaming and blowing the party favors that were handed out. Total waste of $90 or so. Perhaps this place is better the rest of the year, but I hope I never have to find out. I would at least recommend avoiding this place on NYE.
