Thank god they closed this restaurant. I had the worst experience going to this restaurant. I am an Indian. SO I have some idea of the cuisine. I get to the restaurant with a friend.
We order a thali (a assortment of items). They bring us couple of items and we have them. A couple of minutes later the waiter comes to us and says, the dishes we had were not for us but for some other table. He made it sound like it was our fault for eating it.
The people at the other table were Caucasians (important). He had the nerve to come and tell me Hindi that those people are white and we are Indians, so we should understand. Its ok for us to be given the wrong food but not for them to be delayed.
Racism at its finest.
I immediately left the place and left an extra 5$ saying it was for the food they had mistakenly served us.

I am a huge exotic food fan. The bombay mahal is definitely the place to satisfy my pallot. The food is amazing, the buffet for lunch or dinner is really the way to go. It lets you try a little bit of everything. The owner is a very sweet man, he's owned the establishment for 20 years now. With the economy the way its going, i'm afraid he could lose it. Definitely give this place a try, i don't think that you'll be dissapointed.

The food wasnt bad but I have definetly had better in the area for a much cheaper price. When I went, there was a dirty plate on our table and when we told the waiter, he took it off our table and put it on the next table over, it was pretty grose.

My wife and I were introduced to Bombay Mahal by a friend almost two years ago, and now we make it a point to go there every couple of months. There food is fresh and flavorful, there are many great dining experiences in Lowell, but this has got to be one of our favorites.

My wife and I have been dining at the Bombay Mahal for almost 15 years. We have yet to have a bad experience. The owner is always available, accomodating, and very hospitable. The food has always been fresh and tasty, seasoned to our specifications. The atmosphere is traditional and very comfortable. I read one of the reviews on this site and wonder if this family really even went to the Bombay Mahal to eat. I find their review incredible. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lowell with a flare for the exotic when dining.

We just got back from that restaurant. We went there to celebrate our son's high school graduation and great report card of our other 2 children. Let me start by saying that we LOVE Indian food, and this is not our first time at Bombay Mahal. It was, however, the last time ever.
It took forever for the food to arrive. Then, when it finally did, it was horrible! Mint dip had gone bad and was clearly fermented (they replaced it for us), lentil soup had gone bad (so we were told by the waiter) and the chicken soup we order instead was completely tasteless. Think diluted Campbell's soup, I kid you not!
The children dishes were extremely spicy although we have specifically asked for them to be mild. The appetizer platter we ordered was dry and the meat pieces had a tough texture, almost inedible.
We expressed our dissatisfaction and the waiter insisted on making new dishes for us. No one had appetite anymore, all we wanted to do is go home. They packed the leftovers for us but I doubt we'll even touch it.
An evening that was supposed to be a fun and memorable family celebration was just ruined. Not to mention the $100 we left there. :(

They have some of the best Indian food around, and will cater to your desire for spicy or not spicy.
