Just had a meal at Golden Corral for the first time in probably 20 years. Only reason I went was because my girlfriend had seen very pleasing commercials on TV for it, and she was curious, as she had never been. I was hesitant based on my negative memories of the food quality, but I relented and took her. I did share my reservations with her ahead of time. When we arrived, she immediately looked confused. She stated, "This is weird, it doesn't look ANYTHING at all like the commercial". Well, we went ahead and got our plates and went to the buffet line. It was even worse than what I remembered. Nothing looked the least bit appealing to me, but I tried some slices of their steak. Some of it looked almost raw and other parts were so overcooked that I expected charcoal dust to rise as I cut into it. I should have been equipped with a diamond tipped knife, as cutting the meat was nearly impossible. The pieces I was able to get into my mouth were like chewing shoe leather. I had better luck with the baked potato, and the mushrooms were actually ok. I went back to try the fried chicken and underneath the fried breading the chicken looked raw. I quickly backed off. The tea was OK, maybe the best part of the meal.
My girlfriend fared no better with her meatloaf, but the strawberries were good she said. We left in a hurry as I was already getting a queasy stomach. We tipped our waiter who provided good attentive service, but it must be a real drag to have to work in place like this.
