Red Apple Cafe is definitely the best breakfast restaurant in the Santa Cruz area. They have an insane selection of food with traditional options, mexican breakfast dishes, various scrambles that are amazing, different daily specials, and so much more. My personal favorites are the bacon ortega scramble, the homemade hash, and the chicken & chorizo huevos rancheros, but everything I have tried here has been amazingly delicious. The portions are huge for such great prices and they even have really good drinks. The bloody mary is perfect and they have belinis with multiple different flavors. The service has been nothing short of exceptional, with kind and friendly staff and fast service, even when it is at its busiest. This outdoor seating is really nice!! I have never been disappointed and whenever I have people in town or want brunch, I know where to come!!!

I have lived in Aptos for 16 years and would not recommend the Red Apple Cafe to anyone. On Easter Sunday, we ate at the Red Apple Cafe for the last time. My wife tried to order eggs over-medium and the cook failed miserably 3 times to get it right - first two attempts were grossly undercooked (yolks were cold and runny), and the third time, the eggs were literally burned beyond recognition. At that point, my wife had lost her appetite. To further aggravate the situation, my wife was then lectured by Gracia (claims to be the owner) at our table, in front of all the other customers. According to Gracia, "her cook is unable to prepare eggs according to such a specific request." Wow, we had no clue that over-medium eggs would be testing the limits of a supposedly well established breakfast restaurant. When we asked to have the eggs taken off the bill, Gracia got extremely aggressive, loud, and belligerent and threatened to call the police and report us for stealing from her. My wife felt so threatened that she reported Gracia's behavior to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff. Ironically, it sounds as though our experience is not unique and the Red Apple Cafe and Gracia have a reputation for similar service and treatment. There are plenty of other options in the local area. I would avoid Gracia and the Red Apple Cafe like the plague.
