I stumbled upon this charming local eatery and was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming service and delicious, homemade Southern cuisine. The variety of menu options and reasonable prices made it a delightful dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, well-prepared comfort food in a cozy setting.

I eat here when I'm passing through. Most of the time I get the fried chicken dinner which has always been good because it's always HOT when I get it. The staff has been very helpful and nice when I stop in.

I'm only giving this restaurant a review because of the quality of food and the price of the food! after I entered the restaurant I saw they were having a shrimp and grits special! Both people in my party ordered the special. We both waited 20 minutes to get shrimp and grits. I also ordered a side of french fries. The shrimp was greasy not fried crispy!!! The grits Needless to say were not a southern Grit and they tried to make it fancy by adding corn which took away from the flavor of the grits and I typically like grits with corn in it however these were not palatable at all!!! Our side order of fries were obviously cooked in the same cooking oil as the shrimp, because everything that was fried that night tasted just like shrimp!!!! Their staff was very friendly ,however I don't think they understand that by sitting there and staring at their customers it makes them feel uncomfortable. Checking on your customer making sure they have everything they need is acceptable!!! However blatantly staring at them is unacceptable! This restaurant needs to train their waitstaff a little better! They also need to think about not reusing their cooking oil so much! If they do reuse the cooking oil don't put so many different varieties of foods in the same cooking oil!!! Otherwise a very quaint peaceful establishment!

If you are anywhere near Johnsonville, take the drive to the Shady Rest. Best food you will find anywhere. The staff is wonderful and make you feel at home. The food....awesome and the portions are large. And the prices are amazingly low! We make it a point to drive to Johnsonville every time we're in Myrtle Beach, just to have lunch there.
