11/10/2020 - Brooke S.
I wish I could deduct stars at this point. I started speaking with August E's in September 2020 for a bachelorette party I was planning for November 6, 2020. I was given strict rules for dinner, which I had no problem with, and left my CC number with the hostess as asked. I was told a manager would call me with approval "due to it being a bachelorette party". I waited for a call and never got one so I called the restaurant again. Mary, the manager, told me "there was a line out of the door and she would have to call me back". I called a total of 6 times in September. In October, I finally was told the reservation had in fact been approved and was on their books for 11/06/20 in the wine room, as requested. I spoke with August E's 3 times in October. I called on 11/05/20 and was again confirmed for the wine room. A total of 9 calls were had between myself and the restaurant. We arrived at our scheduled time only to be told it was MY misunderstanding and our reservation was not even in the books but a table in open dining would be set up. This was told to me by the hostess, Devan, who lacked any respect to paying customers. I talked with the manager, Mary, who was EXTREMELY rude and basically wrote me off. I talked to the owner, Dawn, who walked up to me and said "Yes?", after I explained the situation she said others "paid $500 to be in the wine room" to which I informed her that was never told to me EVER as being required. Dawn said those who pay a deposit absolutely take precedence and that if I didn't know that, it is their 3 new employee's fault. Dawn then walked away and sat at a table drinking champagne after telling us we should understand due to COVID-19, which is why I made reservations well in advance as we have a BRIDE planning her wedding during COVID-19 and are well aware. I had literal tears in my eyes while talking to the owner and not once ever was i issued an apology. Mary and Dawn treated us like we were not good enough and it was blatantly obvious in the way we were being treated. Our service was then a direct reflection of the terrible management. We requested several bottles of wine (#'s 69, 136, and 132 - one of which was a Cheval des Andes) and after waiting 30 minutes, was told they didn't have the first selection. Instead of offering a suggestion on a similar wine or let us even order something else, the waitress had already walked away. After 2 out-of-stock bottles, I asked if she had a list of what they did have stocked and she literally walked away from the table without saying a word. 45 minutes later, and with no help from the waitress, we got a bottle of wine. It took almost 2 hours to get our food, the bride did not even eat because her filet mignon was cooked WELL DONE when medium rare was requested and she did not want to spend any additional time there waiting for them to "fix it". The manager/owner had some random "friend" serving people (he confirmed to me he did not work there at all), going into the kitchen, clearing tables, etc. with no mask. The owner and manager walked all over the place with no mask. The manager actually had her mask tied onto her elbow. I saw staff in the kitchen, and even those cooking, not wearing masks. (Dawn, what about the COVID-19 excuse you were trying to use...?). I saw the manager, Mary, talking and pointing at our table all night and at one point, flicked me off which I believe I have on camera so, see the pics below). Our entire evening was ruined because of this place. August E's from top to bottom NEVER APOLOGIZED ONCE, blamed the paying customer, blamed their own "new" staff, and took zero accountability for anything. Our bill was $950+ and we had the worst dining experience of our lives on what should have been a memorable evening for a very special occasion. Go to Vaudeville instead if you are looking for a fine dining experience. This place lacks all respect, class, customer service, and does not follow COVID-19 guidelines. I will never step foot in here again and would suggest you do the same.
Dawn, Mary, and Devan - you should learn to treat others with respect, especially in a service industry, but probably also in your daily lives. You three were nasty, rude, disrespectful, and walked around as if you were better than everyone else. I wish nothing but the absolute worst for August E's and hope on my next visit, a new tenant has taken over. Good luck, you need it!
A complaint has been filed with the Texas Health Department as well.
