Ernie's BBQ in Greenville serves the best brisket sandwich I've ever had. The portions are generous, prices are fair, and the service is friendly.

I have been going to Ernie's since the 1960s when I was a kid and I was raised on Ernie's barbecue and it has indeed changed owners several times. The new owners keep 'banker hours'. They close whenever. I live in another town. But I try to go to Ernies when I am in Greenville. They have been closed the last three times i have been there. I'm done with Ernies BBQ

They practically demand a minimum 15% tip for over counter service. You stand in line to order, fix your own drink, gather your own condiments and then get up to go back to the counter when your order is ready. They can't possibly walk a few feet to bring it to you. No 'service' whatsoever but a huge tip bucket sitting right in front of you as you pay 'before' you get your food and if you use a card to pay they flip the screen into you face showing a list of tip amounts starting at 15%. There is indeed an option for no tip, but; how dare you?! Not me, ever again.

Best bbq in town

Ernie's has always been consistent in serving good barbecue and you could always count on quality meat. However, a drastic change has occurred that affects product and customer service. About a month ago my daughter and I drove up to Greenville and looking forward eating at Ernie's. It was a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 that the one woman behind the counter told me they were out of brisket and turkey. A couple of weeks later I drove back to Greenville in the middle of the week and got a barbecue brisket sandwich. I noticed after the first bite that the meat was not up to the quality I have experienced in the past. The brisket was overcooked and dry tough. Several weeks later I went back to Ernie's on a Saturday around 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The woman behind the counter informed me that they were out of brisket. I asked the woman if Ernie's was under new management and owner and she said yes. I made the comment that I couldn't believe a barbecue restaurant would be out a product and her comment was "we want our product to be fresh". That definitely was a stupid response. If this is their operating procedure it won't take long before the doors close. As for myself, it is a sad day that Ernie's was sold to an owner that does not have the experience in serving the public with a quality product and I will not waste my time anymore and traveling to Ernie's.

Best bbq in Greenville! They have really stepped it up since the new owners took over. They are putting Ernie's on the map with the younger generation. Don't pass it up!
