Opened April 29, 1961 by Fred and Loys Ray, Fred's Corner Grille operated as a Dairy Queen for more than 40 years. Now independent, Fred's has been operated by Charissa Morrison for more than a decade. Fred's was recognized by the Texas Legislature and Governor Rick Perry in 2011 for its 50 years of service to the community.

Fred's is a favorite stop whenever we're in Vernon. The atmosphere takes you back to simpler times, and the friendly folks there serve up some of the best burgers and onion rings around. Even though it's cash-only, the delicious food and nostalgic vibe make it worth every moment spent waiting for a freshly made meal.
