Lowery's used to be good, but has steadily deteriorated. Food as well as service. Lots better places are around Tappahannock.
07/13/2014 - Wills family, Northern VA
Our family has been eating at Lowery's since at latest 1956. It's been a tradition on every trip through Tappahanock, to the point that we would sometimes even go through there just for an excuse to eat at Lowery's. No more. The menu has changed (for the worse), the prices seem to have jumped significantly, and the food prep has been subpar on several occasions. I don't thing the antique cars, always a treat for the little ones, are there any more either. Service is okay, I suppose, but the old friendly Lowery's staff attitude has been nowhere to be found for the last several visits.
It was wonderful while it lasted, but if they don't want us coming there, we can easily oblige them.

Regretfully today will be my last visit to Lowery's for a good while. Living not far from them, we have eaten here off and on for the last 50+ years. With hope they will change their seasoning practice. My wife and I ate the Sunday buffet and even though they prepared good products, most was ruined with salt. I have eaten salt cured country ham and salt fish that were not as salty. Having lived in the Northern Neck all my life I know what good seafood is and this could have been had the salt shaker not been so busy. Hopefully management will taste their product and make some changes. Knowing the quality foods this restaurant was built on and able to produce, it is a shame for all to be lost to over salting.
