The buffet at Riverfront restaurant in Chilhowie was a pleasant surprise on our road trip from Nashville to Maryland. The friendly staff and delicious food, like the skirt steak platters, made it a memorable stop on our journey. The cozy atmosphere and variety of menu options definitely make this place a must-visit if you're in the area.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!
Waited almost 2hrs for cold food. 2 parties of the almost same size as ours seated 20 and 30 minutes after us was served and left before our food even arrived. Had to ask constantly for refills. We were told it took so long because the one cold burger we got and the child's size sliders take 30 minutes to cook and the kitchen was backed up. It also seems like a steak takes less time to cook than a burger, since the other table got 2. The one burger was a mushroom and swiss with 3 mushroom slices of mushroom on it. Had to ask multiple times what is taking so long to just get a I don't know, or I'll check. The wait was not worth the taste or the price.

Very pleasantly surprised. On the way to Knoxville for cancer therapy and sick of fast food. Have lived in NYC, LA, & Dallas now "Mayberry" N.C. So had the best, fanciest, most expensive & almost worse in big & small town. Riverfront Cafe was low priced, efficient , (we were in a hurry) and delicious. Not greasy but fresh & we even tried the dessert we were so impressed. Wow😋

We went to the riverside Friday, 8-22-14. The service was slow, even though there were plenty of employees around, and very few customers, after 40 minutes of waiting for our sandwiches the waitress said it was because the pork takes so long to cook! When the sandwiches came the pork was cold, made out of pink slime, pork that is waste, cleaned with ammonia, mixed with sauce and then frozen, to be thawed by the vendor.
There was food I did not order caked to the bottom of my sandwich. When I spoke with the manager he lied to me about how the pork was fixed and did not understand why I was an "unhappy person" and offered to apologize for that but not for the bad food or the horrible service. I have never spoken to a manager more ill suited to the work he is doing. Rude, inept workers, horrible, cafeteria grade food, poor beer selection, and where is the "river"?

This was our second meal from this restaurant. The first was so good but this time it was unbelievably poor. The shrimp was veined and rubbery, the fries tasted old and mayo was added to a wrap requested to have none. There was absolutely nothing good about the meal. Souch so, we will not try again. So disappointing!

Well I just tried out the new Riverfront Cafe. The building has been renovated very nicely. But the service is slow-slow!! We were there for more than 10 minutes before a waitress got to our table. The hostess told us to seat ourselves. When we finally got out food after about 30 minutes it was not good and we had no silverware!! It took another 5 minutes to catch the waitress's eye and she seemed to think it was out fault that we didn't have silverware. The noise level was beyond belief.Sounded like all the people were hard of hearing and were all trying to out talk the other. On a scale of 0-10 I rate this restaurant below 0!! And I don't recommend it.
