A friend mentioned that this restaurant serves authentic Mexican cuisine, so I decided to check it out on a busy Friday night. After being seated quickly, I ordered street tacos, which came with chorizo, chicken, and steak, garnished with cilantro, onion, radish, and a half lime alongside a mild green sauce. The atmosphere was pleasant with soft lighting and colorful artwork, and while the dishes were enjoyable, there was a sense that the flavors leaned towards a more Americanized version of traditional fare.

real mexican food, not just tex-mex.. they offer the standard burritos, enchiladas and guacamole, but I suggest you try the chile verde or carnitas for a true taste of mexico. have a flan for dessert.
generous portions. friendly, helpful staff will keep your glasses full. family friendly.
we've been eating at el maguey since it opened over 10 years ago and keep coming back for more.

This restaurant was voted one of the best Mexican restaurants in W/S so I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. The staff was very attentive and the food arrived very quickly. My raspberry margarita was delish. I had burritos which were very tasteful and filling. The establishment was very clean. My husband said the restroom was spic n span. The nicest restroom he has seen in a long time. I used a coupon upon paying and got an extra $5 off the bill. The food is very reasonably priced and during the week they have many specials on the food and beverages. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Staff is very personable and attentive. Food is authentic Mexican and served appropriately. For variety there is Arca del Noe (Noah's Ark) which is large enough to share, but I would recommend having an appetizer or two with it. The spicey hot shrimp, Camerrones Diablas, is a little fiery but so very good. The salsa and warm chips are always excellent. If you want a special order, this is something I have seen them do many times. The chicken soup is a perenniel favorite, and the full order is very generous. Their margueritas have the best ingredients anywhere close (and I have had them in fort Worth where they were 'invented'). Although this is a family restaurant this is the BEST tequila bar in Winston, 'bar' none. The weekday/week night specials include $1.00 drafts! The outside patio has a rose garden and piped music. If you are in the mood for Mexican food in the Winston-Salem/Yadkinville area, this is the one!
